Michelin use two types of beads in the manufacture of their tyres, folding bead (TS) and wire bead (TR). Bicycle tyres are traditionally made with wire bead, usually steel. This material is heavier than the ade aramid fibres used for the manufacture of folding bead tyres but it is much cheaper. This is barely used in high performance tyres, with the exception of DH tyres (Down Hill or descent).
